About the project

The Victor Train Depot is a historical landmark located in the City of Victor, Idaho on the west side of Teton Pass. The original rail and Depot construction were completed in 1914 and served both passengers and freight for fifty plus years, connecting Ashton, Idaho, and the main line from Idaho Falls to West Yellowstone.

In 2011, the City of Victor purchased the property and commissioned Harmony Design & Engineering in partnership with Natural Dwellings Architecture to convert the property into a Scenic Byway Visitors Center, rest area, and transit stop.

How we did it

Harmony Design & Engineering provided landscape architectural design and site design including concept plans, final construction documents, and construction oversight. The project consisted of the construction of a new visitor’s pavilion, parking area, transit stop, and pedestrian amenities. The focal point of the site is a new pedestrian and bicycle pathway located along the historical alignment of the old railroad tracks. The pathway was designed with special paving that mimics the actual dimensions of the old tracks at the pavilion and then gradually fades to standard concrete at the north edge of the site where the pathway connects to the main north-south pathway that runs through Teton Valley.

The site plan enhances the alignment of the historical “wye” that was used to turn trains around at the “end of the line” in Victor.
